Ahi Appetizer

Ahi Appetizer

—3/4 Pound Sashimi-Grade Tuna Steak, Small Diced
—1/2 Cup Cucumber, Small Diced
—1 Avocado, Peeled, Pitted, and Small Diced
—1/4 Cup Green Onion, Chopped
—1½ Tsps Red Pepper Flakes
—1 Tbsp Toasted Sesame Seeds
—1½ Tsps Lemon Juice
—2 Tsps Sesame Oil
—1/2 Cup Soy Sauce

To Toast Sesame Seeds:

Heat a dry skillet over medium heat.

Add sesame seeds.

Stir often until toasted and fragrant, about three minutes.

Preparing the Appetizer:

In a medium bowl, combine the tuna, cucumber, avocado, green onion, red pepper flakes, and sesame seeds.

Pour the lemon juice, sesame oil, and soy sauce into the bowl, stirring carefully to blend the ingredients but not mash the avocado.

Place this bowl into a larger bowl filled with ice.

Chill in the refrigerator for 15 minutes only—any longer and the freshness of the fish will be lost.

Once chilled, remove the bowl from the ice, and invert onto a serving plate.  Serve with toasted bread or your favorite crackers.  Alternatively, place individual portions of the blended ingredients into margarita or martini glasses and top with several crackers each.

Serve with Hagafen Lake County or Potter Valley White Rieslings and enjoy!!
