A Typical Day Around the Tasting Room
This story has to be shared…
Earlier this evening we had a couple, Amber and Phillip, getting married at the winery. I went up to the Vineyard House to check on the bride and make sure everything was okay. They informed me that everything was great, except the minister was going to be about an hour late for the 4 o’clock ceremony. I came back down to the tasting room and told Bill Morris, Phil Ellrott (our weekend warriors) and David Pepple what was happening with the wedding.
Phil pulled out a card from his wallet showing that he is a licensed Pastor. "I can perform the marriage ceremony if necessary.", He said.
I walked back up to the house and talked to the groom and father of the Bride to let them know we had someone on site that could marry them if necessary. They thanked me, and went to talk to Amber. I came back down to a full tasting room and told Phil, "You're on stand by.”
About 10 minutes passed, and my cell phone rang. It was the bride. She said "Please send Phil up."
Phil headed up the hill, met with the bride and groom separately, then married them!
The ceremony was short and sweet. He talked about how life isn’t always beautiful; sometimes it is stressful and full of unexpected events, such as a minister not showing up for your wedding. He talked about how life always has a way of working itself out. He read from Corinthians, the couple said their vows and were married at Hahn Estates during a breathtaking ceremony over-looking the Salinas Valley.
What a joy to be part of today’s beautiful near-miss. Just another testament to the magic and spirit of this place. Enjoy the photos.
