2004 Zinfandel Collection

We have specially packaged this limited edition collection of six matched serial numbered Renwood Zinfandels in a handsome wood box. This quintessential collection is the best of Amador and includes a certificate of authenticity. Limited to 168 matched sets.

Each Zinfandel Collection includes one bottle of the following wines.

2004 Grandpère® Zinfandel – The 20 acre Grandpère® vineyard is home to the oldest clone of Zinfandel in America.  Believed to be 130 years old, this unique clone produces one of the biggest, spiciest Zinfandels. The 2004 has a complex bouquet full of rich, generous aromas of raspberry, vanilla and white pepper, with blasts of sweet cocoa and nutmeg.  It provides an incredible depth of flavors including intense berry fruit, black cherry and dark bitter chocolate. It has rich, chalky tannins and a smooth but intense finish.

2004 Grandmère® Zinfandel - Represents a blend of the finest Zinfandel vineyards that reside throughout the hillsides of Amador County’s gold country. These vineyards provide us with fruit from ancient vines.  We choose the name Grandmère® (or “Grandmother”) because fruit from these vineyards usually results in a wine that is consistently warm and friendly, gracefully mature and immediately inviting. The aroma of this wine is redolent with the smell of vanilla, cooked berry, plum jam, and pomegranates.  The cornucopia of fruit and spice flavors help balance the high alcohol and the wine finishes with a rich tang of vanilla and dark red fruits.

2004 Jack Rabbit Flat Zinfandel - The block called “Jack Rabbit Flat” Zinfandel comes from the Fox Creek Vineyard, which is one of the classic ancient vineyards of Amador County that was planted over 80 years ago. It has aromas of cherry pie, holiday spices, vanilla and truffle.  On the palate, flavors of blackberry jam, cherry, white pepper, cocoa, mocha and caramel linger through the finish. The tannins are full and the wine should cellar well for 6-8 years.

2004 Fiddletown Zinfandel - The Fiddletown appellation is the oldest AVA (American Viticultural Area) in Amador County, California.  The vineyards have a higher elevation (up to 1,800 feet) and enjoy the perfect combination of hot days and cooler nights – more so than most Amador County vineyards.  This wine exhibits ripe blackberry jam, cherry, plum, and white pepper aromas.  The entry is soft with savory red fruit flavors that are lush and vibrant.  The abundant layers of fruit in the middle produce a balanced wine, which finishes with a little spiciness and wonderful toasty vanilla notes.

2004 Old Vine Zinfandel - The 2004 Old Vine Zinfandel is comprised of the best selection of Old Vine vineyard lots in the valley, each adding its own nuance and complexity to the final blend.  The 2004 Old Vine Zinfandel is dark ruby in color.  The bouquet consists of cranberry, allspice, nutmeg and blackberry compote.  The flavor has ripe berry fruit on the entry, following with the medley of holiday spices, and finishing with chalky tannins and the vanilla bean from the American oak.

2004 Amador Ice Zinfandel - The fruit is left on the vine allowing it to become slightly dehydrated and highly concentrated.  Just after harvest the fruit is cryogenically suspended (frozen) to obtain maximum concentration.  The fruit is then pressed while frozen resulting in very concentrated Zinfandel “syrup” that cold fermented.  The result is one of the most unique dessert wines in the world which is the essence of Zinfandel.  Our 2004 “Amador Ice” Zinfandel begins with aromas of fresh tangerines, pears, and berries.  In the mouth, the wine has silky sweet characters of caramel and berries with a hint of vanilla. A superb balance of acidity and sweetness allows the finish to linger.
