Tamber Bey hosted a full "Day at the Races" at Golden Gate Fields for all 'EQQWine Club Members, right on the San Francisco Bay. The day included not only more food and wine (Tamber Bey library wines - of course) and 11 horse races, but Golden Gate Fields also held the World Championship Weiner Dog races between the horse races. Horse race #4 was named for Tamber Bey Vineyards which was a four furlong race of two year old thoroughbred fillies, and the winning horse was "Purtian Baker" bringing in $38 of winnings for a $2 bet! Who won the weiner race - "Sammy Davis" was the little weiner that took the grand prize. What a fun day!
Tamber Bey participated in more events that we could count in this year's Napa Valley Vintners Wine Auction week. But the Grand Finale was the Saturday night 'LIVE' auction, where bids went up to as much as $1.1M for special wine and travel related lots - all for the benefit of local Napa County charties. Pictures left are Tamber Bey's proprietor Barry Waitte and General Manger Jennifer Nice, with guests and special friends David and Claudia Shipman at the LIVE auction. That evening featured over 40 Live lots, including one sponsored by Tamber Bey that included wine tasting through the Napa Valley vineyards by horseback! The evening was also deep in food, wine and at the end dancing into the moonlight. Great fun for all!
Tamber Bey announces the release of it's flagship wine, the 2006 "Estate" Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon. In it's 5th release, this wine lives up to the high standards of the Oakville Appellation with the richness and character that only this region can produce. Winemaker Thomas Brown states "This wine is all about power. This exquisite Oakville Cabernet is dark ruby in color with a concentrated nose of plums, violets, cedar shavings and earth. Complex and compelling with raspberry jam, cocoa and spice followed by a layered mid palate of dark cherries, black currants and licorice. The long full-bodied finish offers red fruits, vanilla and integrated smooth tannins. Harmoniously balanced, this wine drinks well now but those with patience will be greatly rewarded".
The estate property and specifically the kitchen at Tamber Bey will be featured on the 2009 'Kitchen's in the Vineyard' home tour Saturday, April 25th. Visitors will visit five Napa Valley homes in the heart of wine country featuring kitchens, dining rooms, entertainment areas and gardens — all enhanced by springtime floral designs and table settings. At each home enjoy tastings offered by well-known Napa Valley chefs and meet local authors available to autograph their books. In conjunction with the tour, Napa Valley Life magazine highlighed this event with a picture of 'Joey' giving Jennifer a little nibble on the cover shot!
Mother nature gave us the most perfect day to celebrate the new release of our '06 Tamber Bey 'Estate' Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon. Friends and family from all over came to the Tamber Bey estate and had a very relaxing day at the guest house overlooking the namesake vineyard of the wine that was being released. The critics of the day stated simply that the '06 estate cab is the best yet - with depth, flavor and balance that is a noted true characteristic of the Oakville applellation.
2006 Deux Chevaux Merlot: "Lush, ripe berry aromas. A depth of richness shows black cherries and currants. Thick and intense flavors on the palate. Rich, rich, rich! Now, here's one serious Merlot; plenty of fruit, plenty of tannin, plenty of long life. And a bargain at $39.00. Only 150 cases made. A really fine wine that will outshine many cabernets."
2006 Deux Chevaux Cabernet: "Bright elegant aromas, a bit smoky, leads to an elegant, medium mouthfeel, a delicious wine. This wine wants food. It has a fine tannic backbone for balance. A fine value at $35.00."
In a review Napa Valley 2006 vintage, Wine Spectator stated that the Tamber Bey Merlot is a standout noting it as 'elegant' for the limited available wine. "Sleek and elegant, but nicely structured, with red current and toasty sage aromas and focused black cherry, dried herb and cedar flavors."
With only 150 cases produced, this wine is sold only directly through Tamber Bey.
We usually don't make a deal about a restaurant placement of our wines, but the opening of Bottega in Yountville (our home town) was a big deal along with our wines being offered there! Not only do we have a great new eatery in Yountville, but it is owned and chef'ed by our good friend Michael Chiarello - from the famed NapaSytle (see below). Bottega is a 'bold' Italian affair with an wonderful atmosphere inside and out, located in the landmark 1870 Vintage Estate building in downtown Yountville, across the street from some of the other 'right bank' restaurants.
Tamber Bey hosts exclusive events for EQQWINE Club members and friends.
